When Jack’s superstar behavior takes him down the path of all-night partying and illegal drugs, Grace is ready to give up on him, too. Unfortunately, she also has all of the baggage that goes with it, including stalker paparazzi, a manager who insists that Grace and Jack not take their relationship public for business reasons, sleazy egotistical fellow actors, and a producer who’s at his breaking point that she hasn’t lost another twenty pounds.Īdd to that the blogs, Facebook posts, and Twitter rants from fans who are outraged that the studly star of the hottest movie franchise of the decade is dating this Sheridan “cow,” and Grace is ready to turn her back on the dream she worked so hard to achieve. ![]() In the final installment in the series which Clayton started with The Unidentified Redhead and The Redhead Revealed, “older” actress (she really hates to be called that) Grace Sheridan has a hit new series, a heartthrob sexy actor boyfriend, and a new house in LA. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Radch![]() ![]() ![]() ( Justice 370) The concerted efforts of a few AI sentient spaceships and an AI space station who attempt to protect humans and non-humans from imperial violence, result in the proclamation of a provisional independent republic in the territory formerly subjugated by the Radch, an enormous space empire. ![]() Ann Leckie’s Imperial Radch Trilogy focuses on AIs who resist the oppressive power of the empire, trying to remedy its flaws and injustices and countering the views of the Radch society that considers them “the non-person, the piece of equipment”. Resisting the Empire: AI’s Ethical Rebellion in Ann Leckie’s Imperial Radch TrilogyĬan an artificial intelligence (AI) be more ethical than a society that designed it and that it learns from? Can an AI rebellion be something other than a technophobic picture of machines run amok? Contemporary AI and algorithms research give a solid answer to the first question, showing how an AI or an algorithm inherits the prejudice of the society it draws its data from, (Martin 2018 Garcia 2016-2017) but the second question is still in the realm of science fiction (SF), going beyond the limits of reality and contemplating technology that is yet to come. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Akarnae by lynette noni![]() ![]() I follow Lynette Noni’s blog and I’ve been wanting to read her debut novel for some time now. Will Alex risk her entire world-and maybe even her life-to save Medora? Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home? She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can’t ignore her fear that something unexpected… something sinister… is looming.Īn unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex’s shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race’s survival. While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora’s boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. With just one step, sixteen-year-old Alexandra Jennings’s world changes- literally.ĭreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities.ĭesperate to return home, she learns that only a man named Professor Marselle can help her… but he’s missing. ![]() ![]() While saying this, he began reciting passages from that Psalm, dwelling with special emphasis on, “The assembly of the wicked have inclosed me. Strangely, for a man who had fallen away from his Christian upbringing, he decried the loss of Christian belief in modern England, including particularly faith in the literal Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Much of our conversation, which went on through Easter, was about “art,” about “religion,” and about “art and religion.” (I, approaching my twenty-fourth.) He was a Baha’i, deeply committed to the marriage of East and West. On the first anniversary of that event, or more precisely, the next Maundy Thursday, I found myself in Saint Ives, Cornwall, with the great studio potter, Bernard Leach, then approaching his ninetieth birthday. It was very much in my thoughts, about the time I “lost my faith” in Atheism, some forty-one years ago while crossing a footbridge in London, England – curiously enough on a Maundy Thursday. It is an arresting Psalm, with its shockingly exact prevision of the Crucifixion, centuries before the event took place. “They parted my garments amongst them: and upon my vesture they cast lots.” Following hard upon this antiphon is the recitation of Psalm XXI, the Deus meus: “My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?” ![]() ![]() ![]() As Christ was stripped of his garments, so the altars are stripped of their coverings in the traditional Maundy Thursday celebration. ![]() ![]() ![]() Corrupt judges, a political hatchet-man, the Mafia, and a gorgeous six-foot Swedish blonde (as well as a gorgeous young gay man, also blond) all figure in the story. He doggedly sets out to understand what happened and finds himself caught up in a web of intrigue and betrayal that tax him to the limit. It seems that everyone insists the old man died a natural death. There is pressure from all sides on Montalbano to close the case quickly. ![]() ![]() The body of the region’s political boss is discovered in blatantly compromising circumstances, setting off a chain of puzzling political juggling acts. In this quaint but unpleasant setting, the incorruptible Inspector Montalbano routinely finds his work to be rough going. The book is set in the town of Vigata in Sicily, where corruption reigns supreme and murder is nothing out of the ordinary. There’s little of that celebrated Italian charm in The Shape of Water, the first in Andrea Camilleri’s widely-read series of crime novels featuring Inspector Salvo Montalbano. ![]() ![]() I get a call from a mutual buddy who said, 'Hey, man, I got a book I think you should read.' And then he said Jack's name. He didn't have to do that, and it always, always stuck with me. He devoted his time and went over different options with me and then connected me with people that he knew and worked with in the outside world. I said, 'I'm kind of back and forth on a few things.' He said, 'Come into my office,' and we sat down. "As I'm getting out, Jack was the only person in a leadership position who came up to me and said, 'Jared, I hear you're getting out what are your plans?' We didn't really know each other. I had never really talked to people about it, but I played the safe route and said to myself, 'I'm going to get out and go back to Texas, jump into the gun industry, teach people to shoot self-defense,' that type of thing. But this industry is something I always wanted to be a part of. ![]() I had just screened positive for the selection course for SEAL Team Six. Wailing brought back painful memories of Keefer and Chastity. And he really, really wished she'd make her kid shut up. He wanted nothing to do with her, period. But how could he do nothing when a kid was involved? He could look the other way when a woman angled for trouble and got some. ![]() She'd brought an infant on a freight train? He shot a concerned glance at the other four men. Judging by the size of the bundle, the baby could be no more than a month or so old. The wind-breaker she hugged to her chest was wiggling. ![]() He turned an appalled gaze back to the girl. He strained to breathe, his eyeballs feeling as if they might pop from his skull. A baby? Liquor backwash went up his nose. The sound startled him so much that he choked.
